It’s Just “Caddy Shack” To Me

 Decisions. Decisions!

This was my fourth, and possibly last, week smacking that little white sucker all over freaking place, then back again. Plain and simple, I stink at golf. Maybe I’d be a little better if I tried harder, but I don’t believe I have the desire (or the skill?).

Let’s weigh it out, shall we?

Pros:
-       Breathtaking mornings spent outside walking hills
-       3 hours knocking around with two very close friends talking all kinds of crazy s#$t
-       Swearing slides right by
-       Bar Cheese on Ritz Crackers at the Halfway House plus hot coffee ALWAYS equals a breakfast of champions
-       Using my clubs to practice the baton twirling learned at summer camp when young
-       Working on the tan albeit causing strange lines
-       Easy to say, “Hole over! Give me a 10.”
-       Cute caddies

Cons:
-       Don’t really care for the sport
-       Friends give me sad puppy dog eyes when I say “but I just don’t wanna.”
-       Sucks to suck
-       Clothes are not attractive, AND no one looks really good in them except “Cookie” who’s a size 2 and wears short skirts (she looks good)
-       And don’t get me started on the U-G-L-Y SHOES
-       Takes up way too much time
-       Diminishes my math skills. I can subtract 5 from 9 yet “How many more holes?”
-       Makes people crabby and whine or maybe just me
-       IT IS NOT EXERCISE
-       Elicits an unfocused feeling when in reality focus is just fine
-       Not a beach but too much water and sand
-       Balls act as water seeking missiles, see above

Did I already mention I totally suck?

And if you love this sport, more power to you. I do not share your view.

Couples Golf: Just Because I Know How, Doesn’t Mean…

Did I learn to golf when I was young? Yes.

Did I say I liked to golf when I met my husband-to-be? Yes.

Was I fibbing? Not entirely.

Did I pull a “bait and switch”? Maybe.

It’s the only thing that stopped happening shortly after we were married and to this day…until now.

You know what it’s like when you’re really into someone. You’ll pretty much agree to do “whatever” on a date just to spend time with them (I’m speaking of totally appropriate things here).

I said I liked to play golf because I did but not really for the game. I liked being outside in the late afternoon on a beautiful day. I loved cruising around in a golf cart on rolling hills amidst the flora and fauna. I loved the little cooler he packed with a few beers each which made us a little more chatty. And the bag of popcorn. I very much loved the "Francheesies" at the Halfway House. I loved the time alone when no one else was in sight and it was quiet; just us and the birds. I loved the quick, spontaneous kisses.

Of course, I did have to get out of the cart and hit a ball…A LOT…but it was still a blast because we were falling in love. I didn’t give it a minute’s thought.

Now everyone thinks I play golf again because my arm was twisted by said best friend (See post from a few days ago). AND I’m double and quadruple dating on a golf course. What’s with that????

All seven of them are lucky it was Cinco de Mayo on Saturday and they were serving margaritas from the drink cart. Note to self:  There is still an inverse relationship between the number of margaritas (two) and beers (one) you have and your ability to golf.

I will concede it was fun. It was a beautiful night. The pot roast nachos and fish tacos afterwards were killer and made up for everything. Just don’t expect me to do this every weekend, people.

I’m speaking to all of you….Pleaaaaaaasssssseeee!!!

I Should Change My Mind?

Took the time just now to peruse the Chicago Tribune which is a luxury today. While turning the pages, my eyes gravitated to an ad with a beautiful diamond filigree necklace. It is just my taste in jewelry... elegant, understated, etc. The best, and most clever I might add, caption was stated simply below the lovely piece. It said, "Give The Gift That Keeps On Giving You Golf Trips".

This is one fantastic advertisement. The creative team who came up with this is spot on for placement and target market. This ad will pop up on desks, in dressers or just plain on the counter top of many suburban Chicago homes this evening.

Here is my dilemma. My husband loves, loves, loves golf trips but should I change my Christmas list which only included leather gloves, a robe, wine glasses and a teapot? What is the "cost" to me in a new Christmas list featuring this gorgeous thing?  Hmmmm, I need to weigh this out because I might be able to swing it. What should I do?
