Obsessions, Eh: 100 Word Challenge

I never know what’s happened. 

Though that’s not true.

Sometimes I do. Sometimes you’re still there. Sometimes you vaporize before my blues.

You are an unpredictable one; I will give you that. 

[psst…I kind of like it.]

I’ve gotten better at the spaces, don’t you know.

Sometimes they still prick. 

(I did not just call you a prick though it has an authentic ring.)

My life is a busy buzz brimming with productive and rewarding things. Can it be too much? Too full? A bit de trop? 

Sure, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have a second for you.

Of course there’s a catch: all of our 33 words must be one syllable each. They are giving us 5 words so that’s 33 from us, for a grand total of 38 words.

The first time I saw…

the bird who hummed

it swept me off with brisk wing beats

i was mad

for its

jewel toned throat,

rust coined weight,

and long limbed nib

that sipped a rose like wine.

I’m obsessed with hummingbirds and can watch them flit and drink for hours. The Ruby-Throated Hummingbird is indigenous to the state of Indiana (and Illinois for that matter) where my prettiest flowers grow. Like Cardinals, the male is more beautiful and colorful than the female. I'll give them that...

We all know it’s Wednesday and on Wednesday’s, for the last month or two, I’ve been talking about books and linking it up over at Should Be Reading. So here we go:

What am I currently reading?

This book starts out very quickly paced which I love. I’m about one-third through. It’s about a young, Google-like internet company and the whole “Big Brother” technology which is scary as it becomes increasingly more and more possible.

Also, I’m intermingling these spicy short stories.

What did I recently finish?

Absolutely outstanding. Five stars all the way. I'm addicted to and obsessed with Alice Munro.

What will I read next?

Well, I am in current violation of the moratorium on book buying that has been issued for this household. I expect UPS to ring my doorbell at any minute. Even though I have stacks and stack here from which to choose, here are the incoming:

WWW.Wednesday: All About Books!

Books are my favorite things in the world. I was recently accused (identity to remain nameless) of reading too much. I have no problem admitting it. And I’ve been reading instead of writing so that’s my excuse for an almost complete disregard for this blog. It’s been fantastic and if I hadn’t already committed to NaBlogPoMo over at Yeah Write, I would happily continue reading. My “tbr” list is long.

So for WWW. Wednesday at Should Be Reading (thank you for bringing everyone together) we need to answer these three questions to play along.

I am currently reading:

To say that I’m obsessed with this book is an understatement. I think about it all the time. I read it while I cook, wait in the car, etc… I even woke during last night (4:00am) seemingly unable to sleep and read an hour. I can’t seem to think about anything else. Only 300 pages left (At a point where wheels are falling off and I love when that happens) of nearly 800. I will be depressed when I finish.

And currently listening to:

I never think of myself as a YA fan but have read a few lately. This one (about 1/3 in) is, for me, outstanding so far. Ahhhh, young and new love. There’s nothing like it in the world.

I recently finished:

I really, really liked this light book. It was quirky. I love quirky. It kept me wanting to read page after page right to the end. Very sweet.

I’m not entirely sure what I will read next but it will be between two I have sitting next to my bed:

Risk Versus Reward

The best way to take my mind off of a heartbreaking visit to the vet is to write something. So here you have it.

Yesterday I Was Desperate...Today I'm Obsessed!

I am overly obsessed with Romeo of the famed and fated couple in Shakespeare's classic story but not because of the Bard. Maybe that's why I chose yesterday to write about a longingly desperate relationship I carried on for so many years (lots of other things I could have come up with for the love story prompt). Romance, insane love on the brain, it makes sense to me today because I CAN NOT tear myself away from this book. I didn't even want to write today because it would intrude on my afternoon delight with "my guy". Okay, not to creep you out, I'm just reading, I promise! Plus, I'm temporarily retired so I have some time.

When my kids were young, we watched Beauty and the Beast about a gazillion times, over and over and over again. (Mulan was the second most watched Disney video) I mention this because I've always been a little bit like Belle, nose always in a book. A book goes with me everywhere, tucked on my person at all times. I've run into things because I'm walking and reading. Most people run into things texting; drives me nuts! Maybe I piss them off too? 

About me and books...It's sort of how my love life always was...feast or famine. Either I have one and I won't do anything else unless I absolutely have to, I'm in search of one or I'm not interested in anything at all. I have a book fairy that I contact for my times of total desperation (this time for titles) and she's never failed me. She is the one who turned me on to Juliet by Anne Fortier *.

Today I'm infatuated with Romeo, and Juliet too, for that matter and next week I'll dump him and have someone or something new to consume my mind. It's like a revolving door for me, the people that come in and out of my life of a purely fictional nature. In reality, everyone else sticks around...friends, family, lover, etc. This is how I get my variety, I suppose.

I'm not one who's easily distracted but I do willingly dive head first into something if it's worthy. So far, some 250 pages into this book, it's definitely worthy.

* Guys, this is a historical fiction of sorts, and somewhat of a chick lit book. Read at your own risk because it's not a super manly version in my opinion! You will learn a lot about the premise of the story, the times, the city of Siena (one of my favorites)......
