It's Monday, April 18th! What Are You Reading (Tax Day Edition)?

Hosted by The Book Date

Since we last discussed books back in February, I really have been reading even though I haven’t told you about it.

What have I finished recently?

The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath

The Pharos Gate by Nick Bantock (the very last in the simply stunning Griffin and Sabine series)

Valletta78 by Erin Fitzgerald (Yikes!).

I am sure there have been others, but my feeble brain is blanking.

What am I currently reading, you ask?

I am getting ready to finish a few. Specifically:

Written on the Body by Jeanette Winterson, who, by the way, was a finalist over at Literary Hub's Tournament of Literary Sex Writing. Yes!

Felicity by Mary Oliver. This is my third collection by her, and I have loved each and every one.

Innocents and Others by Dana Spiotta. Here is the description from Goodreads.

The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith. I am listening to this book, and it is fascinating. Remember the movie? Yeah, ME TOO!!!

What will I read next?

I am heading out of town at the end of this week. I plan to bring two short story collections and one novel. I seem to do better with novels in airports and on planes. Short stories work better, for me, poolside. They are:

What is Not Yours is Not Yours by Helen Oyeyemi (short stories with a key, actual or symbolic, at the center)

The Tsar of Love and Techno by Anthony Marra (short stories)

The Nest by Cynthia D’Aprix Sweeney (novel about a dysfunctional family fighting over inheritance (isn’t that the way it seems to go?)).

What are you reading these days?

Hi Gina, I'm visiting from "It's Monday!" at the Book Date. Hey, I recognize two titles on your list! (That's good for me! *lol*) I'm reading "Silence of the Lamps" by Karen Rose Smith, with "Endless by Mischa Gerrick up after that. Have a great trip!

Here's my It's Monday!

So funny! I don't always recognize titles in some post, too. Which ones do you know here? I'll come over and check yours out! Thanks for stopping by LuAnn.

The only one I've read is The Bell Jar, and that was decades ago. I'm the reverse from you -- I like shorter bits on the plane and then novels for poolside. :-)

I’d love to listen to The Talented Mr. Ripley. I have a hard time reading a book if I’ve seen the movie but listening would be different. I am going to write that down. I did go get the cute book from B&N to track my want to reads. I just check my position for A Man Called Ove. I’m #6 now. I put it on hold when I read your post about that one. They always seem to come at once. I am currently listen to Stephen King’s The Stand. It is so long that I ran out of time with the library audio. I still had 27 hours left so I went ahead a bought it with an audible credit. It’s very good and now I can take my time. I don’t remember much of it because once upon a time ago I was too chicken to finish it. Never saw the movie either. I’m not “reading” anytime. I just finished Mary Higgins Clark’s I’ve Got You Under My Skin. I didn’t realize it was a series until I finished the second book. So I just finished the first one. I’m #10 in line for the book (I prefer to read her). I haven’t read short stories in a long time. It just brings to mind some also by Stephen King that I was not too chicken to finish.

I loved The Bell Jar. Glad I read it at this age. I seem to be poolside with people so I sneak in bits and parts!

I am thoroughly enjoying Ripley, but Matt Damon, Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow are stuck as character images. Could be worse! That King book sounds too long for me! I like the audio to be under 25 hours. Seems to work for me. I also haven't read any King, ever. Hope you get Ove soon. I think you'll love it. I need to see what your cute journal looks like. I'm getting ready to start some short stories. Love them!

So this is where you've been writing since Trifecta disbanded. Where else are you writing? You could always guest post on dunceacademy.com. The only REAL Dunce Academy or dunceacademy.com site.

Well, hello dunce two. Long time no see! Did you have to mention Trifecta?!?!? I'm still mourning its departure from the writing community. Miss it terribly! I haven't found the perfect creative fit since.

Over the last few years I've written almost exclusively at Yeah Write, but fell off these last twelve months. It is a weekly moderated writing contest. Great writers there. Though most recently, I've been participating in the 100 Word Challenge at Thinspiralnotebook.com. There are many familiar faces, to you and me, over there. It's fun.

Wait! Why don't you start some sort of creative writing prompt at Dunce Academy? I understand there is a lot of work for that behind the scenes, but it's a thought!

Okay, twist my arm. I'd love to guest post over at dunceacademy.com. What are we talking? Books, creative pieces?

Thanks for stopping by. I miss my Trifecta friends!
