How do you feel about where you live?
So Fadra’s Sunday Stream of Consciousness this
week offered up a prompt…see above…and I decided to bite.
I love where I
live. I have lived in two homes in my community, each within 6 blocks of the
other. It isn’t exactly the community we originally chose. We wanted to live in
the town just to our east but 20 years ago, home prices were an issue and we
bought a house within the same awesome school district, planning to move in a
few years.
Well, 2-3 years
turned into 8 years. We realized this is where we belonged and the allure of the "fancier" community no longer made sense...wasn't us. We set down our roots.
Our first home, lived in a city condo prior, had the most incredible karma…the good vibes. I don’t know if it was because we were broke, made our own fun and began raising our children there. Maybe it was because all the families we met were exactly in the same spot.

We eventually sold
this home to a family who still lives there 12 years later. We know them and
they love the house. They actually heard, after they moved in and from another
family, that our house had good karma. Maybe we told people how we felt,
probably so.
My biggest concern
when we built our current home 12 years ago, only 6 blocks away, was can we
duplicate the same vibes. Will it feel like our home? How do you recreate
something special, that feeling? My friends assured me that we would.
I always knew that
it was those inside the house, not the house, that made the good vibes. We got
it right. We made it home. We will never move again…unless it’s to downsize but
who knows. It’s home. It smells like us (not gross), our kids love their beds,
we host so many holidays and impromptu dinners here, we hang on our big front
porch and neighbors stop by. We aren’t going anywhere, unless the kids move us
to a nursing home.
The good vibes are
here and so is the Karma!
Phew! A lot in five
minutes but the topic was a breeze for me!!!

I love your attitude & the idea that the right space can hold good karma. Never heard it used in that context but I like it. Sounds like a happy home & a happy family is enjoying the benefits of that good karma - in the case of the new & the old homes. Stopping over from #SOCSunday.
Hi Monika,
I learned from this move, and my tentative feelings, that we make the good karma and feelings within our homes. Nowhere I'd rather be. Thanks for reading.
This is so great! You made the home a home with your energy and spirit. Beautiful!
Jana,
Eventually you realize it's the people not the structure that make a home. Now my home is empty with two kids at school. Different feel altogether!
this made me think of my favorite home:) good vibes and karma, indeed.
A Chicago home, no doubt! It's the people inside that create those awesome vibes!
YES! The vibes! I have looked at a few homes and if I can't picture myself there, I'm just not interested. But sometimes it's just that feeling and I worry about it feeling like home. You've given me hope that it will.
That worried feeling is EXACTLY what I was talking about above. Icame to the realization that if the four of us were ANYWHERE, it would feel like home because it's about us. You will find your "home", too.
