Mondays Are Made For...

I usually roll into Mondays without much issue. They’re just like any other day of the week except with more “any other day”s strung behind it. Mondays are good days for fresh starts.

Appearing as a vision of an organized home last night, I decided this particular Monday would be the beginning of closet cleaning. It’s true that things are bursting out of them, stuff is falling off shelves, and the doors don’t fully close. It’s overdue.

So the first thing I intended to do after brushing my teeth was to hit up the hardware store for gigantic, black trash bags. That would get me started.

But I got a call at 7:00am from a kid (one of mine). There's only one worse and that's the middle of the night call. Calling from the campus medical center, my son informed me of his fresh diagnosis of mononucleosis. And that he felt like doggie doo doo. And that he had a test in an hour.

When your kids are sick, it’s difficult to concentrate on spring-cleaning because you’re worried and feel powerless especially when they are away at school. (I should probably put together a care package.)

Instead of buying gigantic, black trash bags at the hardware store and digging right into those closets, I decided to go to yoga. I’d have the rest of the day to fill gigantic, black trash bags, right?

But if I wasn’t going to fill gigantic, black trash bags, I should do some “real” work.

Except that after yoga, I really felt like writing. Just a few words about cleaning out closets, I promised myself. The gigantic, black trash bags and my “real” work could wait because it’s only noon and I have the rest of the afternoon, right?

Now that I’m finished writing, I’d really like to finish the book I’m reading. It’s called Where’d You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple. It is one of the funnier books I have read in a long time. There are only 50 pages left which won’t take long. That would still leave me the rest of the afternoon to fill gigantic, black trash bags and do some “real” work, right?

I have a habit of not getting much done on Mondays.

That's exactly what my Sundays usually look like. I always have grand plans of doing laundry, cleaning things, finally organizing our office that is the only room in our house still filled with boxes, and filing all the papers that are just piled up. But every Sunday after my long run, all I end up doing is sitting on the couch. Glorious, yes. Productive, not so much.

Ohhhh. I hope you son feels better. Mono sucks. Sounds like you had a great day!

My Mondays = Your Sundays. But you've only just moved really. You have time for boxes. You could take a year because you do work full-time. I'll take glorious over productive any day of the week.

He's going to come home for for a long weekend which he hadn't planned on doing (no days off school for the holiday). No one in the family has ever had mono before but if anyone would get it, it would be him. He has the most fragile constitution of any of us.

I, on the other hand, had a marvelous Monday. I like Mondays because I can usually find a way to cut myself some slack.

Oh no! My son had mono last year as a soph in HS. It really sucks. I hope your son feels better soon. And the spring cleaning can definitely wait at least until the weather starts acting like spring! (oh the closets I need to tackle..)

The mono is not the problem. It's when it comes back. I was not ready for that! I hope he feels better soon, but his spleen may stay swollen for a few months after all other symptoms are gone.

I would take yoga and a good book over cleaning any day!

He feels awful but he's coming home tomorrow for the long weekend. Hope he can get some real rest and real food in him. I have the cleaning bug. UNUSUAL! So I have to do it while I'm motivated because as fast as it comes, it disappears with equal speed!

I've heard you are more susceptible once you get it initially. I hope not. He is not the heartiest in the family. I know about the spleen thing. I just hope he takes care of himself. Right now he's sleeping everyday, all day.

I've decided to be in reading mode. Ripping through books like crazy. Love it!

I was wondering if that book was good! Now it's going on my to-read list!

I had mono in grad school. It was horrible! (I had a swollen spleen, too.) Sleep is the best thing your son can do right now. I'm glad he can be at home for a few days!

This is great Gina. Oh and I hate those phone calls. Nothing ever goes as planned does it. I had an agenda today, but I already feel three steps behind. I went out (to her little place out back) and talked with my mom who is visiting. I was having a nice time, till I got all panicky about getting behind in my todos. When will I ever learn that NOTHING goes as planned and when I'm sidetracked just to dive back in again when I can.

I already forgot that I downloaded to sample last night. That's what happens when you talk to people on twitter when it's past your bedtime. I'm going to check it out right now.

I totally love this site! All of your posts make me smile! You had a great example this is apply to manifesting a relationship /marriage/anything intangible?
Thanks for the post, Kyra, and best of luck with Strength Carrie -- I've been hearing great things about it.
