I heaved it effortlessly;
children playing catch.
You turned it around lackadaisically
while I looked away. Seeing us.
Trusting, happily distracted, and assuming
you had it. But you were reckless.
Together, we watched it shatter.
I’m right where I started.
Fooled and
Erehwon.

Yeah, we don't ever think about the consequences of the heart the first time, we just toss it right out there.
Phew, I read it in one breath! This was good.
Beautiful! And even though your microstory is about more serious matters, it reminds me of when my uncle threw a watermelon to my other uncle, who just stood there holding his drink. The result was a shattered watermelon all over the floor.
Sometimes we don't think about it anytime.
Thanks so much!
Ginny, what's so funny is I thought about playing egg toss at picnics! But your watermelon story is sort right on target with what I meant. Sometimes one side's with it while the other isn't even paying attention, hence the mess of a shattered whatever!
Wow. Powerful
Ah sad. But if you don't put yourself out there, you may never find true love!
