Yeah Write Garblebuster: Every Time I See a Crow

creativefan.com

Can't consider crows without thinking of Josephine.

("They're those who've crossed over.")

Hugging myself against the familiar shiver,

"Is it you?"

It whisper-shouts from its branch.

“What did you say? Tell me, please.”

All it does is caw,

again.

[teardrop]

"Damn you."

********************

42 words to answer the question:

Why do birds suddenly appear?

(This question made famous by The Carpenters)

So much potency in that teardrop, Gina. And the picture fits the prompt so well!

The tears came before I could stop them.
I loved the pace and rhythm of this, and I just couldn't help but think of the people I'm missing too.

such a beautiful, aching 42 words Gina. xo

(I'm not able to post this week)

An old neighbor (89 years old whose name was Josephine) told me this once about 20 years ago. I've never forgotten. And I think of her, and loved ones, whenever one crosses my path. Thanks for visiting.

Thanks!

Funny, those crows were the first thing that came to mind when I read the prompt. Thanks, Tina.

For some reason, I kind of believe. I also think my dear MIL is the blue heron that shows up to visit me at the lake all the time (it was her favorite bird). I got a little Geary writing this. You are a doll, Kir!

Such a sweet comment! Thank you, Sue. Hopefully you will join in next week. Thank you for visiting!

I totally believe that birds hold some sort of other worldly magic in them. I liked reading the back story in the comments, too. Well written!

Thanks! I originally had a different picture chosen of a crow. I like the idea of this being about a specific person, not the bird.

I agree. It's a weird thing for me, but I totally believe the blue heron = my mother in law. And I mean this in the most beautiful way as a lovely memorial to her!

My neighbor, Josephine, was Czechoslovakian. Maybe in her culture, it has real meaning. Thanks for the compliment as well!

Nice take on the prompt. You make every word count. Beautifully written!

Gina said...

Sam! That is so nice of you to say! I was hoping to achieve some semblance of a full story here.

Thank you, Renada. It felt like a sad piece to me. I cry often, so it felt natural to me.

This was one of those times were the idea flowed out easily, and we all know that doesn't always happen. Then again, it was not so easy to edit and fine tune within the 42-word perimeter.

This gave me a shiver.
