Trifecta: Why I Write

For this weekend's Trifecta challenge, "in honor of all of the writers throwing rationality (and perhaps sanity) to the wind and writing 'til their fingers bleed", they're asking for exactly 33 words about why we write. So here are mine (this is hard in so few words but I suppose that's the point):

Bickering crazies dance conspiratorially in my head needing indulgence.

Gifting an excitable imagination with
Purpose

Replenishes endorphins paralleling reading, no running. Well, almost.

Spoken words never match comparably.

Can’t.

Don’t.

Won’t.

That’s why.

I love the second line. (: Great piece all around!

Thanks, Draug. We always need to let the crazies out and have purpose. What I say to someone never ends up as "good" as if I wrote them something.

"Spoken words never match comparably." So true. I wish I could be as articulate in speech as I am in writing.

Replenishes endorphins is so true! I get as evil as a girl with no access to chocolate if I have something to write and I can't.

Me, too! I always think, after I've said something, that I want a re-do; I'm more clever or funny than that just came out! I think a lot before I speak, therefore, I don't say everything on my mind and tend to hold a lot in. It still never comes out exactly how I would like. Writing gives us the benefit of time and editing (if you are being careful).

Yep! Get out of my way if I have something to say through my fingers!!!

Spoken words aren't even close! I am so much more witty on paper. I loved this. You are awesome!

This is great - I love the bickering crazies and love that the spoken word will never match what's written

Mine either :-( when I have to say something really meaningful or important. I sort of go mush because I don't have enough time, usually, to think about what I really want/need to say. I do exceptionally "good" impromptu silly/crazy talk though. However, I don't say the crazy stuff to just anyone.

You are so kind to me ALWAYS! XO

Well, they ARE up there and fight sometimes but mostly play and dance! MY spoken words are usually never as good and I always wish for a re-do but that's impossible. I'm pretty fortunate to keep my foot out of my mouth though, which is a good thing!

Bickering crazies! I was wondering what that clutter was in my head!! Loved what you wrote! Looking forward to following you on Twitter!

Gina said...

Yes! They bicker like siblings or dance and play...at least mine do. Then I write about all their chatter! I just saw that! Thanks for the twitter follow. I followed you back.

Another one who battles the voices enough to put them first, LOL!

I like the idea that writing gives an excitable imagination purpose. My spoken words often come out jumbled and not quite right. I'd like to think I fix all that in writing :)

Gina said...

Yep! That's me. I love them!!!

And if they weren't there? It would be too quiet and I'd miss them terribly.

I think pretty carefully before I speak and words STILL don't come out exactly as I would like. Maybe I should just say the first thing that comes to my mind and THAT would be precisely what I mean? Hey! Lightbulb moment! ;-) but hard to teach an old dog new tricks.

So well said. The spoken versus the written word is so very different. I'm essentially tongue-tied in many situations, but give me a keyboard and I won't shut up. I love the bickering crazies dancing. Nice. I feel that way often!

Perfect!

I'm not tongue tied so much as I don't say what's on my mind often enough. I just think and observe. I feel much more free to express things writing them. With the right person, at the write time, the spoken word comes out smoothly and surprisingly well.

Yes, they dance, sing and do all sorts of nonsense up there! It's fun times! I'm glad you feel it too.

Cameron, thank you! It's how it feels!

This is weird. I thought I had commented but I guess I read it and decided to comment later and never did. I really love this. "Bickering crazies dance conspiratorially in my head..." perfectly describes the activities going on in my mind as I begin to think about an idea. I do quibble with the notion that the spoken word can never match the written one. While I agree that writing affords the writer of the luxury of time to compose and juggle and massage the words, as someone who must speak publicly all the time, I know that the spoken word can be very effective if presented by someone who writes well. Cleverly written piece. Well done!

I was wondering about you, lumdog... I can imagine, from your writing, that you have those dancing fairies up there too! I agree with you about writers' spoken words. It takes practice, which you've had. I tend to choose my spoken words carefully, for the most part, so what I gain in diplomacy and compassion, I might be lacking in spontaneity (unless I'm just talking out my a$$ with my friends that is). Everything I'm thinking NEVER, ever gets out. I guess I'm a bad sharer of my words sometimes.

Thank you for always sharing positive and entusiatic comments. I appreciate your feedback!
