Trifecta
gave us three words:
Charge, Century, Lost
We
are to add 33 additional words. And here are mine.
************************
“Let’s go back.”
“A century?”
“No...”
“When then?”
“When we felt in charge of time yet to come. When
we had a grip. When we didn’t feel so lost.”
“You think then was better?”
“Yes. Then.”

Yep on some days, then was better. Great 36 words.
Thought provoking. I'm not sure it was better "then", it just always seems like it. For me, it infinitely better now. Anyway, don't think I'm doing the prompt...off to Mexico.
"Then" was easier in a lot of ways. I'm not entirely sure if it really was better or my memory of times past confuses things. Thanks, Kenya!
Thanks. I agree. We remember many things in such a perfect light (the good things) and the memory of difficult/bad times often fades.
I'm happy for your future, lumdog. Much excitement ahead. As much as I look back at things and dream about going back, I wouldn't. I like things now for very different reasons.
Have soooo much fun in Mexico. Going to visit family???
Well done and, as previously said, thought provoking.
Nice conversation! I wonder if 'then' is like exes- we remember it better than it really was.
Perhaps "then" was better because we had less knowledge of the insanity in the outer spaces.
I like this - a "then" is like a "they" (who said it) - never can quite pinpoint either of the two
When we think about those "lost moments" did we know then that things were better or were we looking towards a future when they would be.
Never has "ignorance is bliss" meant more to me than today. I feel like we know way too much about way too little and we're just hamsters spinning wheels, you know? But it was a hard week.
Great use of prompts, Gina!
Thanks, Maggie!
'Then' could be like exes. Our mind is always playing tricks, isn't it?
I absolutely agree Renee. Ignorance (in some ways) is pure bliss.
'Then' and 'they' can be vague, blurry sometimes. Just like the past as we remember it. Somethings are burned into memory while others faded glimpses. Reminds me of a line from one of my favorite songs "Could it be that it was all so simple then? Or has time rewritten every line?"
It seems I/we have a tendency to look past the present wondering what the future would be like (all the what ifs). Then we miss what is right before us, right at that very moment hence a "lost moment".
Oh, I very much agree with you Flood!!! There is way too information out there, put directly in our hands. Then we make decisions, judgements, choose behavior based on so little or on our interpretation of what we are told/hear. I guess we just try our best and I so often feel like a hamster just wanting OFF!
This was a shit-ass week in our world exacerbated by the father/husband of friends/acquaintances stepping in front of a commuter train (4th in a little over a month) during the morning rush hour on Tuesday. Luckily for his family, he went to a different train line, in a different town, which spared them the nasty sight of his recovery (his wife works at the town vet directly across from the station). Horrible.
It's hard to do these things in dialogue and yet you gave me a whole story. awesome, work.
The grass is not always greener in the past, but it does look pretty!
Then we should go there then haha :D Great piece!
Sometimes we all long to go back to another time..Diane
Now that's interesting. They escaped that then only to find it was worse. Certainly a case of the grass is always greener...
Thanks for linking up!
a bit of a reverse on "the grass is always greener", eh? :)
Lot of heart in this one
It really is a little story with a beginning middle and end!! I enjoyed this!
What a beauty in these lines,"When we felt in charge of time yet to come. When we had a grip. When we didn’t feel so lost"!Well done Gina!
Love that long bit - When we felt... Just gorgeous.
Thank you Kymm. Got on a bit of a roll there. "Then" just seemed better in hindsight but it doesn't work that way. I appreciate your comment very much!
I LOVE this comment! Thank you, Lance!!!
Bright green looks pretty darn awesome from a distance, doesn't it? It's never greener and if it truly is greener, it also fades. Such is life.
Let's!!! Last one there is a rotten egg!!! Thank you, Draug.
I love (almost barring on obsessed) time travel. But bring me back to today when I'm finished, please!
That "then" always looks appealing from a future perspective. It's easy looking back and remembering through pretty glasses. Not always reality though.
Kinda, sorta!
Thanks, Ruby. I think a lot about these things. How different it could all be depend on the choices we make. Then I realize, I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be and I let out a huge 'sigh' of relief.
Thank you. Thank you. I tried for that!!!
I love your comments, Atreyee! I liked that part too!!!
I think I'm glad that we can't go back. Sometimes we think we could do it better if we had another chance; I'm not so sure.
