Are you over winter, too? Cars in ditches this morning! Tomorrow, subzero again? For Pete's sake!!! But it's Wednesday so let's talk books instead of nasty Mother Nature's vendetta against Chicago and the Plains states.
What did you recently finish
reading?
It's by the same author who wrote House of
Sand and Fog, which I liked. This book has an interesting premise. It is
actually 4 novellas in one book and a character (somewhat minor) becomes one in
the next story so they are all linked by relationships. I liked it; I didn’t
love it. However, if you see it in a discount book pile, give it a whirl!
Finally!!!!!
I really liked this book. It’s hard to describe it, though, both during and even
after reading it. I read a review I quite liked, which describes pretty much how I feel about it, over at a bookish blog I follow
(Dunce Two is good at what he does, writing). For my more precise feelings on
this book, I wrote a comment over there.
What are you currently
reading?
I
just finished The Woman Upstairs thirty minutes ago so I’m not sure. It’s been
thirty minutes and I haven’t picked up another book yet? Oh, my!!!
What are you going to read
next?
But I’m feeling…
Or
Thanks
to Should Be Reading for hosting this book share each and every Wednesday. I
really need to start writing more!
Blogger's Note: Can someone please teach (or tell) me how to link a photo of a book to it's Goodreads page. I've tried. It, or I, keep(s) screwing up.
Lolita has long been on my TBR list, but I always manage to get distracted by other books.
ReplyDeleteYou can link a photo by using this html code: <*a href="Link to Goodreads page here"><*img src="Link to cover image goes here"/><*/a> Just be sure to remove the * after each <.
I have had it in my stack for a while now. I started Night Film and I'm excited. Been anticipating it for a while but there was a line in the household to read it (thought I'd give my non-ish reader hubby first dips. He gave it two thumbs up!)
DeleteThanks! Shall give it a shot!!!
I'm getting sick of my iPad's autocorrect. It is "dibs" not "dips"!!!
DeleteOne more day of sub 80s is going to make me scream.
ReplyDeleteHave I told you lately...
DeleteIf you were here, I'd slug you in the arm. But then you'd be really cold too so I'd be really happy you were freezing your A$$ off! You guys are going to fall into the ocean anyway! Sayonara.
Nah, you'd be surprised/irritated to find that I do very well in cold weather. It is not how I want to live, but I don't get cold as easily as most. Lots of pictures of me walking around in short sleeves in 30 degrees. Give me a jacket and I'll handle Chicago.
DeleteBring a "real" coat! Tomorrow it will be -20+! You could never irritate me, Jack ;-) !!!!!!!!!
DeleteOooh if you read Night Film I'd love to know your thoughts. It's sitting on my bookshelf just waiting to be read! Here's my link http://wp.me/p32hC2-yT
ReplyDeleteI started yesterday but haven't had much time to devote. Maybe I will be finished by next Wednesday's WWW Books! I will share them as soon-ish as I finish though. Promise!
DeleteI loved House of Sand and Fog so will read this. Woman Upstairs I read this weekend too along with Carthage, depressing and angry but loved both. Woman Upstairs more taut and better edited it thought. All good books for grey rainy days
ReplyDeleteJust read your comment Gina, made me think about so many things I hadn't considered about it
DeleteThanks for stopping by Jody! I enjoyed Dirty Love (not the best book I've ever read but I peeled right through it so, it is engaging). I don't know Carthage so I will check that one out. I really, really liked The Woman Upstairs. In post-reading thoughts, I have a "woman upstairs" in my life, a very good friend but I never looked at it/her that way. I will probably try another of Mesud's books.
DeleteThe book reviews at Dunce Academy are always thorough and insightful and entertaining. He looks past the story and how it makes him think and feel. I try to do that too, but read theirs AFTER I read the book so I'm not looking at it through the same eyes as the reviewer. Happy you went over to check out what I said!!!
Let's see, here's what I've finished so far this year:
ReplyDeleteSmall Is Beautiful: Economics as if People Mattered - E.F. Schumacher
A Discourse Upon the Origin and the Foundation of The Inequality Among Mankind - Jean-Jacques Rousseau
Free Will - Sam Harris
Th Great American Disconnect - Jed Morey
In progress:
