Dirty old
snow?
Dreary
slate-colored skies?
Not just a
weather funk?
I don't know
but
every single day
looks.
the.
same.
feels.
the.
same.
seems.
the.
same.
My Alarm goes off.
Every single same morning.
Changeless.
DA DA DA Da Da
Da da da da,
DA DA DA, Da
Da Da, da da da
DA DA DA Da Da
Da da da da
OVER and Over and over.
Indistinguishable
Sameness.
load the
laundry.
clean the
kitchen.
change the
laundry.
unload the
dishes.
fix the
dinner.
load the
dishwasher,
clean the
kitchen,
fold the
laundry.
OVER and Over and over.
Identical
Sameness.
Flip on the
TV,
maybe,
just to hear a
contrast.
OVER and Over and over.
Tedious
Sameness.
day in. day

everything's
the same.
seems the
same.
It's killing me.
I feel that way too, since this frigid weather is just dragging on, and it just keeps on snowing. Here's hoping spring is on the horizon!
ReplyDeleteYeah! You get what we do just a day or two later. Man, I am so tired of this. Today, ice stalactites are falling from the eaves of my house. A little scary but, for now it seems the weather has broken. It's certainly broken my spirits.
ReplyDeleteThanks for noticing, Jo-Anne. I'm feeling edgy (and sideways)! It's more a feeling inside of me that I, maybe, haven't been feeling lately and it's certainly cyclical. That is one of the best compliments, too, that you feel the "real" and the "feelings".
ReplyDeleteWell, you captured my feelings! Today's "heat wave" helped a lot, but hopefully we both survive the rest of winter...we deserve a good summer after this mess.
ReplyDeleteWell, you know exactly what this has felt like being a Chicagoan yourself. It STINKS! Now it will be a sloppy mess while it melts. But I'd rather have the bright sunshine any day!
DeleteThis is beautiful, Gina. Every line echoed what I have been feeling lately - great use of the prompt.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!!! I think many of us are feeling this way. Maybe not always about the weather, but life, too. I don't know, but monotony just kills me and drives me bonkers.
DeleteWinter is my least favorite season any year, but this year..in the middle of loss and grief, it's so much worse. The routine is never fun for me, I crave sunshine and outside and NOT WEARING a coat.
ReplyDeleteI feel like I'm imprisoned in more ways than just a mild case of cabin fever.
but as always, you drew a beautiful description of the kind of funk with your words. Nice job, Gina.
xox
miss you!
Definitely my least favorite, but I agree that this year is exceptionally crappy. And for you, in particular, with all you've been through? It's a pile on!!!
DeleteI don't do well mentally with extreme sameness. Makes me crazy. Today, the temp was 42 and I didn't wear a coat. It was perfectly fresh feeling!
Yeah, I get you on the imprisonment. It's a struggle mentally.
I appreciate all your kind words. ALWAYS!!!! And I always miss you!
XOXOXOX
I love winter, I love the cold, I love snow... but this year it's been LONG. At least you're able to do laundry b/c we've had to go weeks w/out a damn line of cold water due to the subzero temps. tomorrow it will be 50. Spring is coming. hang in there. xo
ReplyDeleteGenerally, I like winter too. I love snow and crisp weather and fires with chili and sweats. But, as you know, this one?!?!?!
DeleteOh no, about your frozen pipe!!! So many around here have experienced such damage! Hope yours get repaired soon. But....AHHHHHHH spring-like tomorrow. I didn't even wear a jacket today at 42. Felt like April. So tomorrow will feel like July! XO to you, too, Christina!
I can't imagine living in that day in and day out.
ReplyDeleteOf course, you can't. But there are some benefits and it is often incredibly beautiful!
DeleteCompletely relatable poem. Enjoyed the read, thanks.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Grace!
DeleteHahaha Sounds like you have an acute case of February, Gina!!! You are not alone.
ReplyDeleteIndeed! Yes, I know a lot of people who feel this way.
DeleteI can only imagine what that must feel like where you are. We had "don't go anywhere" snow for two days and I was done. The good thing about being a reader though is that you kinda get to "go somewhere".
ReplyDeleteYes, it's true! I've probably read more.
DeleteMy sister lives in Chicago. She's no doubt feeling this way. We've been both lucky and unlucky in CA this year. It's been warm and beautiful, but very little rain, depleting potable water. Not exactly a good trade off. Wishing you a warmer March!
ReplyDeleteYes, you have the drought! I don't mind but rather like the seasons we have. This particular winter was/is for the birds though!
DeleteGreat writing here Gina. The flow, the repetition, the final arrival to the ending. Brilliant stuff. Thanks for linking up!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteNicely done. The structure in this is great. :)
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your comment, Chyina! Thanks!
DeleteOh Gina, you captured the drain of monotonous repetition, in words that were anything but monotonous even through their repetition. Like so many others, I could easily relate to this. Loved the way you presented it visually too.
ReplyDeleteWhat's funny is that I was looking for more to do (or do with this piece) so I started playing around. I'm so glad you liked it! Thank you.
DeleteAnother great read Gina :)
ReplyDeleteYour writing is clever, tight, original and poetic,
But most importantly, always fun to read
Ally :)
