Stream of Consciousness Sunday: A Painter's Palette

I’ve said this, probably, ad nauseum but I don’t care!!! It’s Sunday and on Sundays I write stream of conscious style writing hosted by Jana. Letting it rip in a socially acceptable way feels so good to me. So we aim to write for five minutes then hit publish. No fuss, no muss, just our unedited word filling the space. So there you have the rules.

Today’s totally optional prompt is:

What color defines you?

Smithsonianmag.com

If I were a painter with an artist’s palette, I would squish a beautiful light blue onto it. Then right next to it, I would squeeze out some green. Green and blue have been my favorite colors my entire life.

But if you took the paintbrush and started mixing the two, though not carefully, the color that I react to the most appears. It’s the color of the Caribbean Sea, a piece of sea glass, the stormy sky sometimes and my favorite color of eyes.

This light shade of blue, blue/green, is the color of eyes that I love to look into very deeply. When I look into the eyes of someone, it’s like looking through a pane of glass. Sometimes I squint to see in further. And if those eyes are blue, I feel a stir, like I can see through even deeper.

My eyes are blue and for some reason, I feel a connection when I find those of the same color or a mix of blue/green and even just green. I feel like mindedness and I’m not even sure why.

The color of the Caribbean Sea reminds me to breath in, relax, enjoy the moment, not fuss.

Sea glass reminds me of beautiful moments and memories. Something to turn over in my hand. To hang onto.

Stormy skies remind me to stay safely inside my home or within myself when something is brewing. Peaceful, somehow. I know from childhood what a sky tinged with green means.

Everything about the variety of shades created from those two colors speaks to me.

  1. Now I am dying for a beach vacation!

  2. You should think about moving near the ocean--it seems to call to you. I could totally picture you living on the coast of Italy, for example!

    1. It does seem to call me but I prefer a sea to an ocean. Technicalities, I know. If I could move off the coast of anywhere, it would be the coast of Italy on the Amalfi Coast.

  3. I have probably mentioned living in Japan ad nauseam but that's not going to stop me either. The water looked like those stones. It was so so so beautiful that I haven't been able to appreciate east coast beaches since then. Loved your beginning - very poetic.

    1. Thank you, Jana. I just took a very deep breath in just thinking of them. Does that to me.

  5. One of the best parts about living out here is knowing that I can visit the sea daily if I want to.

Not the same as the Caribbean, but still calming. Eyes are important, they tell the tales the mouth doesn't share.

    1. You are lucky in that respect but it's still L.A. ;-)

It's not the water, per se, but the variation of color, all the mixes of blues and greens of a calm sea, that draws me in. Eyes are my favorite feature of a person.

I look people directly in the eye when speaking to them and it's interesting to see who squirms.

  7. This is a really beautiful post, and now has me thinking about what color defines me. I think maybe purple, since it can be many, many different shades, depending on the light that hits it. Also, I'm now thinking it's time for a beach vacation. It's usually the cold the pulls at me, but I think I'm due for a week by some Caribbean sea somewhere...

    1. I like purple too because, like you, I enjoy the variations. I especially like an eggplant, deep color. I used to have a room in my house that color.

You should go somewhere. I recommend it.

  8. that is such a lovely colour, Gina.
The colours which define me personally are green (either pear and lime green or moss green) and dark violet (leaning towards blue rather than pink).
I love to use colours in my designs, blog and clothes which have direct impact or effect on people - something that immediately radiates warmth and trust.

    1. I love all shades of green and violet just the way you described it. I don't like pink at all. Green definitely does that for me, radiates warmth and trust, in a way that blue doesn't even though I love it just as much. We have some common ground, I think!

    2. yes, blue is more of a colour of calmness and cold. This is why I prefer petroleum blue or baby blue or a baby blue with a hint of olive in it. Such colours are refined and also have a calming effect on people who see you.
And when I have to wear something dark, I will always opt for midnight or extremely dark blue instead of black colour.
Indigo, violet and purple are also lovely shades of blue, which unlike the blue itself really have deep warmth in them.
