Today’s agenda at Stasha’s place is LIST 10 FOODS. Topic courtesy of Bridget at Twinisms.
I
could assemble a list of my 10 favorite foods but I talk about food a lot
anyway, so that bores even me.
I
could put together a list of things I’ll eat. As indicated by the reaction of
my scale this morning after a weekend out of town celebrating the holidays, that list is way
too long and would be arduous to narrow down to just 10.
I
could challenge myself (why would I do that on a Monday during the holidays?)
and think of 10 foods I do not like, generally boycott, or would refuse to choke down.
There’s so few of those that this should prove burdensome.
10
FOODS I HATE
OR WOULDN’T PUT IN MY MOUTH
OR ONLY IF I WAS FORCED
OR PAID
1. Peas- It’s a known fact I hate them. Would I eat them on a dare or if someone forced me? Yes, but I wouldn’t
be happy about or like it.
2. Raw mushrooms- I wouldn’t just pick one
up and eat it. I have a difficult enough time with cooked ones (other than
portabellas) because of their slimy consistency but like peas, I’d eat them if
I would get some benefit like money out of it.
3. Raisons- Never liked them as a kid
and hated when people gave them out as treats for Halloween. Still don’t care
for them and not even in cookies. Put in chocolate or butterscotch chips
instead.
4. Goat cheese in sweets- I tried a goat cheese
brownie yesterday. If I weren’t at a restaurant, I would have spit it in my
napkin. Actually, I should have. It gave me the willies and I almost refused to swallow it. Don’t do that to brownies, please.
5. Frog legs- I don’t even think I need
to explain this. Who thought eating them was a good idea? I have a brother in
law who, every time he orders them, picks them up and performs a little
dance with them before he sinks his teeth in. Wrong!
6. Lamb- Anything and I’ve given a
good effort here. I really have. Sometimes, I’ll take a bite of someone’s lamb
chop and think, “That’s not so bad.” But then, why would I eat a whole plate of
it if it were not so bad? AND if you cook it in your house,
which I mistakenly have for one of my kids, your house smell like funk for
days.
7. Wild game- I’ll group Buffalo,
Venison, wild birds, and any other four legged mammal, bird or amphibian that’s not a cow, pig or
chicken.
8. I Don’t Do Organs
9. Blue Cheese- If you want to see me
vomit which I guarantee no one does, don’t make me eat a hunk of Blue Cheese.
And don’t try to pass it off in a salad or dish. I can taste it from the moment
it touches my tongue. You know that’s its mold, right?
10.
Sardines (any way they come), Anchovies (unless you chop them up
so small and don’t tell me (but I’ll know and not make a huge deal about it)), Herring-
When I was in college, gold fish eating contests were big. Nothing alive and
squirmy and slippery will ever end up swimming around in my stomach.
I
thought this was going to be harder than it was. As I said, there’s not much I
won’t eat.
I’m
not getting on the scale for a few days until I can get this S$%T (me) under control
around here!
I seriously would eat everything on this list but not in combination with anything I have on my list. ;)
ReplyDeleteSome things have memories attached to them that make them inedible to me unless I was paid to do so. Your list...I was all over that bad boy!
DeleteI love bleu cheese. Yes, I know what you said about it. Your point? I used to love lamb chops but haven't had one in years. Many, many years. I haven't had straight beef (beef in pepperoni doesn't count, right?) in over 12. The first thing on my list would be beans (any bean other than a string bean and it ain't hapnin. No money will make me change my mind. OK, no, wait, I guess I could scarf down a black bean or a (gag) lima bean or pork n beans or maybe, maybe black eyed peas but it'd have to be an awful lot of money and please have a bucket nearby.) I LOVE mushrooms (preferably cooked.) And I happen to really like raisins, especially in a nut/fruit mixture. They also help with um, digestion. Yes, that.
ReplyDeleteOh Arnebya!!! Double YUCK!!! I don't think I could do without beef for that long. I did for 3 years (all meat actually) in my 20s and I loved being super lean but I love it too much now. Beans in any form belong in my mouth. LOVE them. I need the bucket for my 8, 9 and 10. I can eat mushrooms when disguised as a pizza topping but I'm not going to pop one in "just because" at any point. I can't eat prunes either unless they are infused with a different flavor, say orange or something. I love orange anything! And my digestion is just fine, thank you very much!
DeleteWell, the good news is that after reading all these food lists this morning and feeling super hungry, I happened by here and now I feel totally full! ;) So, thank you for allowing me to no longer feel sad about the food I don't have available to eat! ;)
ReplyDeleteSorry if I grossed you out. I had to go to that place just to write this and it didn't feel very good after all. Haven't eaten since! Don't ever feel sad about food. "Just eat" is my motto!
DeleteI am completely with you on the peas. The smell makes me gag. And 8,9, and 10 just confuse me. Why would anyone eat them unless they were starving. And by starving, I mean haven't eaten in days starving. Glad you did a different kind of list that didn't make me want to start baking.
ReplyDeleteAnd they don't have one lick of nutritional value although many things I eat don't either but let's stick with that about peas. I would eat them if I were on my fav reality shows Survivor and Amazing Race but then again that's for $$$. I've read a few lists and I'm scared to read more because I'm really hungry right now. I don't bake so reading about baking is okay for me.
DeleteI'm with you on the frogs legs and organs but everything else is yummy! I think it's so interesting to see what people like and don't like to eat. To each his or her own I guess!!
ReplyDeleteToo each his own. I love most everything else (except the things here). I generally have quite the appetite which can be a problem but I'm trying to be good through the holidays. Just doing fair with that!
DeleteI pretty much agree with your entire list (except raisins. I love raisins.), and that thing with the frog legs? So wrong!
ReplyDeleteI can choke them down but don't enjoy them. Most things I don't like I have a problem with their consistency. Thanks for agreeing on the whole frog dancing thing. My son will order them when they're on a menu. I have a pit in my stomach just thinking about them!
DeleteGoat cheese in chocolate!! Who would do such a vile thing? Yuck.
ReplyDeleteRight? Absolutely disgusting. Thanks for the validation, Azara.
DeleteI'm so with you on the raisins. I actually like them in general, when tossed in cereal or maybe on celery with peanut butter, but I positively loathe them in cookies. Honestly, the easiest way to ruin a baked good is by adding raisins (or some other similarly dried fruit) to the batter. Chocolate chips only please.
ReplyDeleteIf an oatmeal cookie has raisins and instead of foregoing said cookie, I will break it apart and eat around every single raisin. Don't put them in my salads either. For some reason, I tolerate the golden ones because they're at least plumpish. Still...
DeleteWe'd make great dining pals as the only food i like on here is raw mushrooms...everything else is repulsive.
ReplyDeleteThen we can split! You order the steak and I'll order the fish. I always share. And you can have all my mushrooms!
DeleteFunny! I don't do organs either. I have had lamb occasionally, but I would feel so guilty eating it that it would spoil my appetite anyway.
ReplyDeleteI just prefer not to at all and guilt isn't even a factor here. I made it for my son and parents last Christmas Eve and my house smelled rank and gamey for days. Give me real red meat.
DeleteWhy, oh why< would someone ruin brownies with goat cheese???? Seriously that should be against the law or something!!!
ReplyDeleteI know. My friends loved it. I wanted to spit!
DeleteI'm with you on the organs and sardines, but everything else I'm ok with! Just don't serve it with mulled wine!
ReplyDeleteYou know I'm right with you on the mulled wine!
DeleteI love beans, black beans, lima beans, kidney beans.... Okay, I don't want to make you sick. I love raisins too. And I love lamb chops - if cooked right. I love food.
ReplyDeleteI'm a bean girl, too. My jeans said yesterday that I love food to much and asked that I stop stuffing my self into them ;-)
DeleteI HATE PEAS! The big fat ones are the worst. I might it the little ones if pushed into mash potatoes but why ruin my mashed potatoes? I'm almost with you on the EWWW for the entire list but I will eat mushrooms raw and I LOVE raisins. Speaking of cheeses... you know how something happens the turn you off of things? Well I had a container of Feta cheese on the door of the fridge. It takes forever to expire but apparently that doesn't apply to keeping it on the door (in NC anyway). So I threw the stinkiness away. The trashcan outside was already overflowing. Today was trash day. I walk Christopher to the bus stop and what do I see? Feta on the street. BARF. I'm hoping that by the time I go out there to attempt to sweep it up that it will be car flattened and driven to another spot.
ReplyDeleteI'm sort of a weird eater. I really don't like my food mixing at all. There would never be a pea near my mashed potatoes even if I liked peas.
DeleteI love Feta but not stinky, rotten Feta. That's gross. Maybe a squirrel would bite on it or take it for the winter?
I was worried about it getting extra funky because the temp high was 73 today. But as I hoped it was car flattened and now it raining, so I didn't have to do anything about it. Since I didn't have to get up close and personal with it, I guess I can like Feta again.
DeleteSo question for you, when you eat Italian dishes with bread, do you sop up the sauce with the bread or no?
Washed all away! Fresh feta is good.
DeleteIf I'm eating bread and not fixated on my weight, I love nothing more than to sop up any Italian delights with bread. YUM!!!
I agree with you on pretty much everything. Raisins, frog legs, lamb, organ meats (which I accidentally ate once at a restaurant because it simply said "beef"), game, canned fish. Blech!
ReplyDeleteIt's all YUCK in my book. So many other good things to put down the hatch. I've had that happen in Italy before, eating organs, when I didn't understand a menu selection. Somehow not knowing made it edible. I was sick to my stomach when I found out though!
DeleteI agree I would not eat any of those things, except raisins. I love oatmeal raisin cookies!
ReplyDeleteRaisins are worthless and people who cover them in chocolate and pass them off as candy are sadists. Just to be clear, I don't feel strongly about this at all. Ellen
ReplyDeleteYou are funny Ellen! I feel exactly the same!
DeleteI do love blue cheese and lamb. But I hear you on organs. Although I cook them for my dog every night...
ReplyDeleteThat would make me nauseous! Thanks for visiting, Stasha!
