Trifecta: The Burn of Impatience

My tongue touched it registering its first flavor.

The taste sensation sent me into a state of ecstasy. A knowing anticipation of what was to come. Eyes glazed over.

Next my teeth perforated a taut exterior anxiously chasing the soft, velvety, lusciousness of its heart. A lover full of lust. As if it had been far too long.

First

Butter

Then

Crispness

Then

Cheese

An errant drop of core hit my bottom lip as I pulled away. My entire mouth began to scald. Fanning provided no relief; the roof of my mouth already burned by a film of hot Velveeta.

My tongue swept across its delicate surface today, recalling the perfect first bite of a grilled cheese sandwich; a reminder of the pleasure/pain sensation of my passionate impatience.

It’s always the one you take before it hits the plate.

The first half didn't even make the paper plate!

    1. I always cut it in the pan, watch the cheese begin oozing, then take a big bite out of the very center! Haven't had one in forever (always watching the waistline). I will not abstain for that long a period again! Thanks lumdog!

    1. Yeaaaaa! You are so lucky about the grilled cheese truck. Have one, for sure, and tell me all about it.

I was visiting my kids at school a few weekends back and out late with my daughter. I'd heard rumors of the truck outside the main drag (bars) from midnight on. Had myself a fantastic grilled cheese loaded (inside) with Mac n' Cheese! It was the bomb! What a money maker at a university.

  5. I may have just drooled on my keyboard :)

Cheese burns are awful! (The pain we endure for the impatient need for cheese, I guess.)

    1. It's funny. I used to blow on my kids (and eat their crusts as well) but when it comes to mine, I know better but still bite right in fresh from the pan.

  14. You sure know how to turn someone on with a sandwich! I like mine with white american cheese - from the deli. Yum! One red flag (happy flag) that told me I was pregnant with Christopher was all of a sudden I wanted a grilled cheese sandwich. I worked downtown and actually found a place that met my craving. I ate grilled cheese and french fries for several days in a row. The receptionist where I worked was a sweet lady (mother type). When I told her where I went for lunch AGAIN she asked, "Are you pregnant?" Then I got excited because at the time I wasn't sure sure.
