The Curious Incident of P!NK

Big things and small things, important and trivial things. Most things in my life go missing at some point so I liberally employ the theory “Patience. It will turn up.” Yet slip into internal panic mode when my misplacements (see lost) affect someone else. My usual M.O. is to keep it on the down low.

And so it was recently with P!NK tickets having ordered them for three girlfriends and myself back in September. Costing a small fortune then but now replaceable for over $1,000/per., the fact that they hadn’t arrived put me on high alert.

Your tickets were delivered by UPS on 10/4/12. Left on your porch.
Regards,
Jeremy, TicketsNow”

“I never received them! What do we do?” I frantically typed back but vaguely remember an October email referencing such.

(Repeat one hundred times: Don’t sweat the small stuff. It’s only a concert.)

Though when you’re trying to avoid something, it seemingly becomes what everyone wants to talk about. That was happening. P!NK, P!NK, P!NK. Can’t wait for P!NK!!!!!

It wasn’t until UPS and my stupid Blue Tooth compatible car out-ed me while driving with one of the friends. The phone conversation was broadcast for her ears too.

“We’ve tracked the package containing your tickets. It was delivered and we have a satellite picture of the truck in front of your house.”

“There was nothing on my porch. Why didn’t I have to sign for something so valuable?”

“I don’t know but to move forward with a claim, you have to file a police report.”

I was forced to explain the whole story to my friend.

“It’s only a concert but I’m finding it pretty creepy they have a satellite photo of your house. What if you answered the door in your pajamas? I think I remember you mentioning that the tickets came.  ”

“Crap. They didn’t say I signed for them but what if I did? Do you think they are trying to set me up?”

Did I have a memory of this or not? Didn’t matter. I didn’t have them.

Marching into the podunk police department in our sleepy little village, I told my story to Officer Fife (Laird) and I became just another porch burglary incident during a two-week period in October. Apparently, we give “good” porch!

“There’s nothing we can do. They were probably sold immediately for quick cash. If you get them reprinted, your only problem will be getting security at the venue to remove them from your seats.”

The saga continues because I have reprints but 8 people with be showing up for only four seats to the hottest ticket in town…

To me, the scariest part is "Big Brother” watched the whole thing. What else have they seen? And why didn’t anyone catch the creep swiping stuff off my porch?

Residential Burglary Reported: Police Blotter
TUESDAY, FEB. 19
Pricey Pink Tickets Stolen
Police said four tickets to a March 9 Pink concert worth a combined $1,180 were stolen from a resident in the 0-100 block of Blodgett Avenue by an unknown person in October, after UPS delivered the tickets but before the resident picked them up.
The resident recently called UPS to check on the status of the tickets, police said, after wondering why it was taking so long for them to be delivered. UPS told the resident the package had indeed been delivered in the fall.

  1. You need to contact those chicks from Mob Wives Chicago ASAP. They gotta have connections who can go to the concert with you and "remove" the thieves from your seats. Those suckers will never be seen or heard from again.

    1. I love you and your comments! I'm going to call the venue to let them know, bring the police report, etc. You need to buy from reputable people so I'm not feeling too sorry if the don't see PINK. NO ONE is sitting in my seats but me. They could go all Jimmy Hoffa, right?

    1. It has been and continues to be but the saving grace is that I wasn't losing my mind, signing for the tickets then losing them. I take comfort in that part.

  3. Not to play lawyer here, but you should talk to the concert venue. If it is illegal to buy a scalped ticket in your location, then they might be willing to remove the people sitting in your seats. If it's not illegal, they can't remove someone who has a valid ticket. Good luck! Sorry that happened.

    1. But you are one. I'm going to talk with them and bring the police report. It is not illegal to see tickets at a venue in Chicago so long as they are sold for face value. I have had a friend get "take in" for selling above at a Bulls game. I'm trying to figure out how to get them to invalidate the hard copy tickets so that my emailed version are the only "good" ones.

  4. That's terrible! I will definitely reconsider having tickets sent to me in the future - some people really just suck. Sorry that happened :(

    1. I always pay to have email delivery but for some reason, these were hard copy. This was/is a reputable company. Some people DO suck. But thanks for reading!!!

  5. Ok so this post begs the question, do they obtain satellite footage of every package delivery? Because that is just creepy and weird.

    1. They said "yes". They photo everything. CREEPY!!!!!

    1. I need you for my wing-girl on March 9th. I don't know if I have it in me to totally let it rip on someone. Maybe?

  7. I've never heard of the satellite pictures before. That is pretty creepy! But will they be catching criminals that way too? Very interesting story.

    1. That is the first I'd heard of it too. Then I started to think that they had a photo of me signing for them but I have a covered porch so that's impossible. Too bad they can't catch thieves that way, right?

  8. Ugh, I'm so sorry you lost those tickets. I remember you mentioning them in an earlier post. I thought you just misplaced them somewhere in your house.

I wonder if they have satellites follow all of their drivers. Seems like an expensive venture, to me. Besides creepy.

    1. I didn't really know if I misplaced them or not until the police told me there was a rash of porch burglaries around that time. Lots of political stuff going door to door at that time before the election.

She said they do but I don't really know. It is totally creepy. I was shocked.

  9. the satellite thing is weird, but just cause they were at your door doesn't mean they left them right? maybe two ups guys are getting down with pink!!

    1. That's what I told the police, but I know my regular guy and he's so nice. Maybe he had the day off and some other driver jacked them.

  10. You're a tough chick, I'm sure you'll duke it out successfully for your seats! But what a sucky issue. They always make me sign for wine so that never goes missing....

    1. Might take a beverage before I approach the seats ;-). I will bring the police report however. They always make us sign for wine. I just didn't "get" that part.

  11. I can't believe they sent the tickets without requesting that a customer sign for them. I'm not sure about UPS, but FedEx won't just leave a shipment on your porch unless requested to. Or they aren't supposed to.

    1. I know!!!! I agree that FedEx, while it's a hassle sometimes to be home for deliveries, I rather sign than have this happen.

  12. That's a lot of satellite footage of a lot of deliveries and how strange and invasive is that? How madding that whole situation must be. I really hope it works out for you.

    1. I thought it was invasive as well. My friend and I were both shocked. It's just a bummer because we are REALLY looking forward to this and have been since September when we bought them.

  13. I'd be so livid! They definitely should not have just left it on your porch!

    As for the satellite, I sadly accepted that Big Brother is always watching a long time ago. If not by satellite, we can be tracked easily by cell phones, credit cards, gps, and easy passes. {sigh}

Good luck and I hope you get everything resolved!

    1. I was nervous and panicked mostly. Once I found out they were stolen, I was mad. Valuables should never be left on a porch even if the neighborhood is quiet and safe.

I know but I don't like it one bit. It is soooooo creepy but you are right. There are several means for them to track us. Scary stuff.

    1. Well, they emailed my new tickets but I'm having trouble finding out if my reissued tickets invalidates the stolen hard copy ones. Maybe we will get there early and exercise squatter's rights. Hopefully there are big, bad security guys there too.

  16. That is insane! I always think it's weird when they leave stuff on my porch--esp if I don't see it right away! (Because we never use the front door and I have found several things that have been there for days...) Hope it all works out and you get to go. Poor people who paid without knowing--but yup, should have used a reputable source!

    1. I have a big front porch so I may not see things unless they are leaning against the door of side windows. We never use the front door either! I feel bad for the people who paid for the tickets but whoever they bought them from is/was not reputable.

  17. Ugh! And freaky! I can only imagine how f-ing frustrated you must be! I so relate to your efforts to self calm - doesn't work too well for me either! I hope it all works out - I'm sure it will ;-)! Go PINK!

    1. I was very frustrated especially during the time I thought I had misplaced them. I'm pretty good at "cross that bridge when you get to it" so I don't stress all that much. I will be stressed the day of the concert wondering if I will have a confrontation. Go PINK!!! It will be awesome!

  18. When I'm the poor soul in charge of holding concert tickets for a group, I get so nervous and literally check on them daily to make sure I didn't lose them in my house. I totally understand misplacing stuff like that. But this is terrible - to have the stolen!! Hopefully you can still get in to see your show with the reprints!

    1. I, unfortunately, get put in charge of a lot of things. They must think I do a good job but they don't know half of it as far as the inner turmoil goes. It sucks that they were stolen. Hopefully, there won't be trouble!

    1. Well, my UPS guy told me there were a lot of people around the area during that period because of the upcoming election. Lots of political material dropped off so who's to say what happened or who took them. But it had to have been in broad daylight. The nerve!!!
