This morning I told them a recent and weird dream I had in which they were the main character. He was sitting on my back, poking and annoying me while she was flipping through a cookbook of mine stealing secret recipes. It was strange. His dream starred a monkey (which freak him out) in a police uniform who wanted a piggyback ride. Etc..
We could sit around and talk for hours. Haven't found a topic that's is off limits. Still some bickering occurs since we're human after all. But there is just something about the comfort level with those whom you have such long history. Sometimes it feels like "home".

I love old friends like that. And it's funny, my husband and I started the day telling each other our dreams.
ReplyDeletejamie from SOCS (I'm on another laptop and blogger doesn't want to accept my comments?)
Ugh! This formatting thing is making me angry!
DeleteIt was fun, funny. I couldn't help telling them mine since they were in it, then it snowballed from there. My husband's was about being a passenger in a cab then suddenly the driver.
I could tell this wasn't one of the "usual" anonymous comments!
We have two families that we vacation once a year with. Our kids aren't the same age so that makes a little different from yours. Christopher was the youngest - well he still is. But their kids are out of high school now so last year was the first year without them. One of the couples had their grandchild who was three years younger than Christopher. Ideally it should have been fun for Christopher and a break for me because he had someone to play with. But they did not get a long and Christopher was more up under me than before trying to avoid the other child. He was rather unruly and the discipline was that of a grandchild not a child if you know what I mean. So in a way I'm kind of not looking forward to this year and just hope the little boy has matured some or that CHristopher has enough to be able to stand his company. We shall see.
ReplyDeleteI know EXACTLY what you mean about unruly! It has definitely happened before even with the family above but the issues were generally with the siblings and not the kids from the other family. It makes for a very long week when this happens! I hope he has matured for everyone's sake!
DeleteMy sister and I are really close and our families intertwine. I love the familiarity that comes from such a history of being friends.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly it. We laugh a lot, talk about a lot, and words just flow because it feels safe.
DeleteThis is great - love this real life story!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Susan!
DeleteSo we've got a vacation planned in two weeks with a family down the street. We've already talked about future trips if we don't "break up" after this one!! We're a family of 3 and so are they so hoping it all works out!
ReplyDeleteHahaha! The "break up" can happen! You probably know them pretty well or you wouldn't be embarking on a vacation together. I bet it will go smoothly! Report back through SOCS!!!
DeleteMy best friend has been has been in my life for over 40 years and you're right. The comfort level does feel like home.
ReplyDeleteTaylor, that's precisely what I am talking about. We've been friends for better than half our lives. And our kids, all of there lives!
DeleteDreaming about monkey is bad news,,,next thing you know they'll be pissing on your head from the tall branches.
ReplyDeleteGB!!! I just saw your comment! I apologize for not responding immediately! Hear you. I have this love/weariness where monkeys are concerned. They are cute and smart but dangerous. I was recently in a country, and not the first time, wheremaking eye contact with them was strongly discouraged! I will cover my head from here on out.
DeleteThank you for visiting my humble world here!
