“If I actually did do it, we’d still be in this carbon-copy place. Interesting. I could have, but I didn’t. If it comes down to believing a slut over me, only scorched earth remains here. And that sucks. Because I loved you.”
Head over to Yeah Write by clicking on the badge above to check out all the micro-fiction going on at that place. It's where all the fun it!!!
I liked the tension of this!
ReplyDeleteHaha - I just read the man's version on someone else's piece. Quite a tit for tat.
ReplyDeleteWell done!
I subscribe to the "two sides to every story" premise. Thanks, Katy!
Delete'carbon copy place'...wonderful expression, Gina. !
ReplyDeleteI liked it too! Thanks, Jo-Anne!
DeleteLOVE the 'your loss' tag as that's exactly how i felt after reading this :)
ReplyDeleteAfter a heart break or two, it sometimes helps to remember whose loss it really is. THEIRS!!!!
DeleteCarbon copy place is so descriptive..it brings the argument to an 'in your face place.
ReplyDeleteWalking away was never so easy.
I've never done well with a passive(-aggressive) approach to leaving. It's always been either extremely easy or very difficult. As you say, this character gets on with her life quite well.
DeleteSo many of us went in this direction! The scorched earth image is so fitting. And your tags made me laugh. So happy to have you back at yeah write!
ReplyDeleteWell, the question lent itself to intense drama!!! I love high drama (just not in "real" life)! That's two weeks in a row you've liked my tags, Stacie! I will keep them coming then! I'm happy to be back in the smallest of ways. Still adjusting to a new way of life and, boy, is it simple and fun leaving me little discretionary writing time!
DeleteOoooh, scorch that earth, Gina!
ReplyDeleteScorched earth means serious business!
DeleteYours was the first I picked out of the grid to read and I was not disappointed. Amazing way to bring a probably long story to a very pointed crossroad. Loved it!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, mamamickterry, especially for not being disappointed! I'm sure it is a long story. Most relationships are, right?
DeleteGreat images, Gina, and I like the heat in the narrator's voice.
ReplyDeleteOne small thing, because I would be a bad editor not to point it out: as much as I love the word garglebuster - it totally cracks me up - it's actually a gargleBLASTER. :)
Thanks, Christine!
DeleteMy fingers rarely listen to what they are told! I knew it was a "Garbleblaster"! Fixed!
"only scorched earth remains..." That pretty much sums it up! It's good to be able to recognize that though it's hard, too.
ReplyDeleteYou get to a point where enough is enough and then (for me), there is no turning back!
DeleteThis feels like it was taken out of a transcript from divorce court or something. It's very genuine in its tone. Nice work! From a fellow Chicagoan!
ReplyDeleteI don't know anything about divorce court, but I "get" what you mean. Although, I have two friends actively in the process and it's some bitter stuff, for sure. YIKES! Chicagoans unite!
DeleteYou always have such clever writing!
ReplyDeleteAnd you always leave such awesome comments. Thank you for making my day, Jen!
DeleteYour tag Garblebuster made me smile. Don't know if that was intentional or not, but it sounds like a good name for a drink. If you had a few Garblebusters scorched earth might be all that was left in your wake.
ReplyDeleteScorched earth. Passion can have that out come. Sometimes I wonder if love was ever a part of it.? Great writing Gina.
