WWW.Wednesday: Books!

(I apologize for not knowing how to link these pictures to the Goodreads descriptions and reviews. I’ll figure it out soon, I promise.)

What am I reading now?

I am currently reading two books, which is unusual for me, as I like to concentrate and focus on only one at a time. But someone kept bugging me to read

so I am (a little over halfway through). I am reading, for myself, The Woman Upstairs (I’m not very far along, at least not as far as I’d like to be).

What did I recently finish?

I liked it very much. It’s translated from Spanish (I really wish I could read it in the language in which it was originally written because I think it might have lost some of the author’s colorful detail in translation. Who knows?). It’s set in Bogota (missing the accent, I know), Columbia and that fascinated me. I highly recommend this book. And,

I thought this book was merely okay. I actually had a bit of difficulty even giving it 3-stars on Goodreads. I was originally attracted to it because of it’s setting (Chicago), which I enjoyed because I know the city well and could visualize the scenes. BUT, the writing and plot, in my opinion, were sorely lacking in creativity and detail. Quick read and I’m hesitant to recommend.

What will I read next?

AKA The Ship of Theseus, which I have sitting next to my bed. I’m dying to pick it up.

Or

(Which I just ordered from Amazon and awaiting it's arrival).

Or

I can never decide until I'm finished with what I'm currently reading...

  1. I am sad that you didn't think much of The Silent Wife as I'm due to read that soon but The Woman Upstairs looks promising!

    1. I'm really enjoying what little I've had the opportunity (time) to read so far. Maybe we can compare thoughts when finished...

  3. I LOVED Sycamore Row. I have been a massive Grisham fan since I was 12 years old, but have been super disappointed with his last 3 or 4 books. This one more than made up for it. I loved A Time To Kill, and I was thrilled to be back with all of the Ford County characters.

    1. I am really enjoying it. I got it for my husband for Christmas and he liked it and wanted me to read too. It's funny. He keeps asking me, "What's happening now?" A Time To Kill is still my favorite, maybe just because it was his first. I've read about half of his books (not any of his "off" legals though). I have The Racketeer in a stack and will get to that one too. Can't wait to dig into Ship Of Theseus (S)!!!!!! Love and mystery awaits...

    2. I actually really liked The Racketeer. The Firm, The Partner and The Pelican Brief are my all time favorite Grishams.

    3. His earliest!!!! I feel the same. I was put off of them when he seemed to be churning them out. Okay, so The Racketeer will definitely get some play ((my hubby liked it, too) I'm trying to get him to join me on the couch to read!))

    1. I read The Circle recently. I liked it. Very scary premise though, wouldn't you say?

  7. Love that you read so many books. I read three over winter break, but during school, find it hard to keep up reading as voraciously as I like to read. Waiting for the next long weekend to read another book... Might pick one from this list of yours.

    1. I love it too. I made my goal of 52 (actuallly read 53) this year. I understand what you mean about being busy during the school year. I'm going to try to recommend/write about books more often here. It's what I love. Miss you, a.eye!
