My tongue touched it registering its first flavor.
The taste sensation sent me into a state of ecstasy. A knowing anticipation of
what was to come. Eyes glazed over.
Next
my teeth perforated a taut exterior anxiously chasing the soft, velvety, lusciousness
of its heart. A lover full of lust. As if it had been far too long.
First
Butter
Then
Crispness
Then
Cheese
An
errant drop of core hit my bottom lip as I pulled away. My entire mouth began to scald.
Fanning provided no relief; the roof of my mouth already burned by a film of
hot Velveeta.
My
tongue swept across its delicate surface today, recalling the perfect first
bite of a grilled cheese sandwich; a reminder of the pleasure/pain sensation of
my passionate impatience.
It’s
always the one you take before it hits the plate.
The first half didn't even make the paper plate! |

Haha. I feel the same about grilled cheese sandwiches. They are worth the pain! Great write! :)
ReplyDeleteI always cut it in the pan, watch the cheese begin oozing, then take a big bite out of the very center! Haven't had one in forever (always watching the waistline). I will not abstain for that long a period again! Thanks lumdog!
DeleteYou had me until Velveeta... nevertheless a great description of what ecstasy is like when it comes to foods that we love. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteToo funny! I LOVE food so I'm really in tune with this type of ecstasy. Thanks!
Deletei LOVE this. so much! :) :) of course i love me a good grilled cheese, too. that reminds me? there's a GRILLED CHEESE FOOD TRUCK out in the burbs!! toastycheese.com- i haven't tried it but i've been wanting to (they stop near my work sometimes)!
ReplyDeleteYeaaaaa! You are so lucky about the grilled cheese truck. Have one, for sure, and tell me all about it.
DeleteI was visiting my kids at school a few weekends back and out late with my daughter. I'd heard rumors of the truck outside the main drag (bars) from midnight on. Had myself a fantastic grilled cheese loaded (inside) with Mac n' Cheese! It was the bomb! What a money maker at a university.
I think you'll like this little video... ;)

OMGoodness!!! I am so making that next time. What's the next level up from awesome and fantastic? That's what it is! Thanks for the FYI... Scriptor!
DeleteI may have just drooled on my keyboard :)
ReplyDeleteCheese burns are awful! (The pain we endure for the impatient need for cheese, I guess.)
Good! I am impatient with pizza, too.
DeleteWhat the hell is Velveeta anyway??? I looked at the ingredients once and thought it was best I not look again.
ReplyDeleteI actually made this one with good old-fashioned American cheese but what the heck is that either?
DeleteI think my wife took pleasure once in watching me burn my tongue. I like these with tomato soup.
ReplyDeleteYikes!!! I like mine anyway I can get them so long as they are crispy and cheesy!
DeleteA very nice use of the prompt.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteMmmmmmm. lunchtime... I've been warned, though, and will blow on mine!!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny. I used to blow on my kids (and eat their crusts as well) but when it comes to mine, I know better but still bite right in fresh from the pan.
Deletezomg I'm so hungry right now D:
ReplyDeleteI'm starving right now and can't get my mind off f my own post!
DeleteOh Gina, you're AWESOME!!! truly and completely awesome (I say Grilled Cheese and Martinis for our lunch okay??? )
ReplyDeleteI will burn my tongue for grilled cheese and french onion soup any time. ;)

DeleteI looooove grilled cheese!
ReplyDeleteI will make you one, Sam!
DeleteOh, Yum! I make a pretty good grilled cheese myself, if I dare say so. ;)
ReplyDeleteIt's an art!
DeleteYou slap a slice of turkey and some mustard on that thing and give me a call. :-) Love this.
ReplyDeleteCan do and I'll even deliver to Hong Kong! I love mustard on anything! Thanks, Lisa.
DeleteYou sure know how to turn someone on with a sandwich! I like mine with white american cheese - from the deli. Yum! One red flag (happy flag) that told me I was pregnant with Christopher was all of a sudden I wanted a grilled cheese sandwich. I worked downtown and actually found a place that met my craving. I ate grilled cheese and french fries for several days in a row. The receptionist where I worked was a sweet lady (mother type). When I told her where I went for lunch AGAIN she asked, "Are you pregnant?" Then I got excited because at the time I wasn't sure sure.
ReplyDeleteYummm! Now I know what I am having for lunch today...
