Today’s Monday Listicles topic is 10 Movies. Or is it 10 Favorite Movies? Or 10 Favorite Movie Quotes? I do know what it is but I’ve decided to mush it together and, unfortunately, I have more than 10 quotes but they are from only 10 movies. Does that count?
These
are some of my favorite movies and a few are “All Time” favorites.
Here
you go and in no specific order of favoritism.
10 Favorite Movies And Their
Best Quotes (IMO):
1. Airplane
“Surely
you can’t be serious.” "I am serious, and don't call me Shirley."
2. The Princess Bride
Inigo Montoya: “You seem a decent
fellow. I hate to kill you.”
The Man in Black: “You seem a decent
fellow. I hate to die.”
Prince Humperdinck: “Please consider me as an
alternative to suicide.” (Great pick up line?)
Man in Black: “I do not envy you the
headache you will have when you awake. But for now, rest well and dream of
large women.”
Inigo
Montoya: “You keep using that
word. I do not think it means what you think it means.” (In response to “Inconceivable”)
I think the Man in Black
said all the best stuff!
3. When Harry Met Sally.
“I’ll have what she’s having”
4. SAY ANYTHING
“I
don't want to sell anything, buy anything, or process anything as a career. I
don't want to sell anything bought or processed, or buy anything sold or
processed, or process anything sold, bought, or processed, or repair anything
sold, bought, or processed. You know, as a career, I don't want to do that.”
“One question: are you here 'cause you need someone, or 'cause
you need me?... Forget it, I don't care.”
5. THE BREAKFAST CLUB
“We're all
pretty bizarre. Some of us are just better at hiding it, that's all.”
“Dear Mr. Vernon, we accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a
whole Saturday in detention for whatever it was we did wrong. What we did *was*
wrong. But we think you're crazy to make an essay telling you who we think we
are. You see us as you want to see us... In the simplest terms, in the most
convenient definitions. But what we found out is that each one of us is a
brain...
...and an athlete...
...and a basket case...
...a princess...
...and a criminal...
Does that answer your question?... Sincerely yours, the
Breakfast Club.”
6. THE WAY WE WERE
“When you love someone, from
Roosevelt to me, you go deaf, dumb and blind.”
“Wouldn't it be lovely if we
were old? We'd have survived all this. Everything thing would be easy and
uncomplicated; the way it was when we were young.”
“Katie, it was never uncomplicated.”
“You never give up, do you?
“Only when I'm absolutely forced to. But I'm a very good
loser...”
“Better than I am.”
“Well, I've had... more practice.”
7. SIXTEEN CANDLES
“That's why they call them
crushes. If they were easy, they'd call 'em something else.”
And anything Long Duk Dong says.
8. FERRIS BUELLER’S DAY OFF
“The
question isn't "what are we going to do," the question is "what
aren't we going to do?"
“The 1961 Ferrari 250GT
California. Less than a hundred were made. My father spent three years
restoring this car. It is his love, it is his passion.”
“It is his fault he didn't lock the garage.”
“If you're not over here in
fifteen minutes, you can find a new best friend.”
“You've been saying that since the fifth grade.”
9. SOMEWHERE IN TIME
“Is it you? Is it?”
“The man of my dreams has almost faded now. The one I have
created in my mind. The sort of man each woman dreams of, in the deepest and
most secret reaches of her heart. I can almost see him now before me. What
would I say to him if he were really here? "Forgive me. I have never known
this feeling. I have lived without it all my life. Is it any wonder, then, I
failed to recognise you? You, who brought it to me for the first time. Is there
any way that I can tell you how my life has changed? Any way at all to let you
know what sweetness you have given me? There is so much to say. I cannot find
the words. Except for these: I love you". Such would I say to him if he
were really here.”
“Have we ever met before?”
10. PITCH PERFECT
“What are you doing?”
“Horizontal running.”
“I have a feeling we should
kiss. Is that a good feeling or an incorrect feeling?”
“Well... sometimes I have the feeling I can do crystal meth, but
then I think, mmm... better not.”
I saw this for the second time this weekend and it’s
so much funnier. The best lines come from Fat Amy.
Thanks for The Breakfast Club quote. That movie always takes me back to my college days- wild and wonderful as they were.
ReplyDeleteTakes me back too and I've had the opportunity to watch it again and again with my kids. I bet you have too. It brings back so many memories!
DeleteI LOVED Pitch Perfect. I saw it a couple weeks ago, and am already gearing up for a second viewing.
ReplyDeleteIt is so much funnier the second time because you catch so much more. And Rebel Wilson makes me laugh even if I just look at her.
DeleteGiggling through all of these and agreeing with most (The Princess Bride especially, because I love it so still and always.) I haven't yet seen Pitch Perfect but my oldest daughter watched it at a sleepover this past weekend. She kept trying to explain it to me and every time she said Fat Amy I cringed until I finally asked why she was calling her that. Oh.
ReplyDeleteNext to Somewhere in Time, it's probably the movie I've seen most in all my years. And one of my top three all time favorites. It just celebrated it's 25 year anniversary ON OUR BIRTHDAY! You have to rent it On Demand or Netflix. It made me laugh hysterically twice. It might have been because I saw it both times with my girlfriends but it's really funny. Fat Amy named herself that so...
DeleteSo many people are quoting Princess Bride -- even my husband goes around saying, "My name is Inigo Montoya..." I swear, I'm the only one who hasn't seen it!
ReplyDeleteYou need to see it. It's silly and wonderful and sweet and romantic and clever all rolled into one. And by the end of it, you'll know the quote "My name is Inigo Montoya..." too.
DeleteLONG DUK DONG!!! :)
ReplyDeleteOkay! Just reading it here made me laugh!
Deleteha ha - i am THE worst at movie lines - my beau says' em' like it's nothing
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty good with them. If I see a movie with my friends, we say funny lines back and forth to each other all the time. We are definitely on a Pitch Perfect kick because we just saw it again.
DeleteI love Estelle Reiner's quote from When Harry met Sally, it's amazing to think most of that famous scene was improvised.
ReplyDeleteTo me When Harry met Sally seems to grow in stature with every passing year, although when I watch it now it is tinged with sadness because of the passing of Norah Ephron and the seeming retirement of Meg Ryan.
Have a great week!
They are both amazing comedic actors with fabulous improv chops. I envy that level of quick wittiness. Wish I could go there more often, if at all.
DeleteIt does grow. And I feel the same way about Norah Ephron. I'm not as thrilled anymore with Meg Ryan but love the movies she did when she was younger.
I haven't seen Perfect Pitch. There's like a million movies for the last decade I probably haven't seen. I'm curious about that horizontal running.
ReplyDeleteWell, you're going to have to watch it to find out! We watch a lot of movies and are heading into the major movie viewing season...Winter! You don't get frozen into your house like we do. Or maybe we just choose to be. I don't remember which ;-)
DeletePrincess Bride is my favorite! I have seen it so many times but never get sick of it!
ReplyDeleteI will never get sick of it. Makes me laugh. Makes me happy. Tugs at my heart. You know. All the good stuff in the world.
DeleteThe world would be a crueler, darker place without The Princess Bride.
ReplyDeleteYes it would.
DeleteLloyd Dobbler from Say Anything. The best.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. One of my favs AND John Cusack was on my first date with Scott. Well, not on it but at the same small BYOB place at North and Well, Trattoria Roma. He had a Postal Worker's uniform coat on.
DeleteLove the Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club quotes!
ReplyDeleteGreat list!

Nothing like John Hughes movies!
DeleteI forgot about Somewhere in Time. Thanks for the reminder. I'll watch it while doing my 'horizontal running' (such a great quote!).
ReplyDeleteI could watch SIT once a week but then I'd cry. My friends and I constantly joke about "horizontal running".
DeleteWe have the same taste in movies, Gina! I need to watch the ones on this list that I haven't seen (Pitch Perfect sounds good).
ReplyDeleteYou need to see Pitch Perfect. I'm not saying it's the very best movie in the whole wide world but it is super funny. I've seen it twice and I'd see it again.
DeleteYou picked out some good Breakfast Club, Say Anything, and Sixteen Candles. You deserve a shout out for giving Long Duk Dong a shout out. :) Ellen
ReplyDeleteI spent my 20s with John Hughes movies, a most memorable time of my life. Anything about Long Duk Dong deserves every shout out in the world.
DeleteI can't wait to see Pitch Perfect LOL! And my mother-in-law's name is Shirley so I ALWAYS think of that quote!
ReplyDeleteSee it! I don't think you'll be disappointed. Can't even hear the word "surely" or the name "Shirley" without thinking about it. I even say surely a lot on a regular basis and I silently say it in my mind although sometimes out loud as well. Thanks for visiting!
DeleteMIB do have some killer lines ;) love the way we were. And clearly I must watch the perfect pitch. Great list!!
